One of the best for a long long time, the Derwent Artists Colored Pencils range features highly in all my artwork for its versality, beautiful natural color range and sublime layering and blending properties. I am the proud owner of an amazing Derwent Limited Edition wooden box with the complete range of their pencils (anno 1999) along with some memorabilia, given to me by my husband as a gift.
These Derwent Artists pencils come in a round barrel with thick core, making them perfect for broader strokes (combined with Prismacolor Art Stix they make a great tool as well, please see other review). Slightly waxy but never too soft on any support that you want to use, these pencils do truly stand the test of time against any other brand that I have used. Derwent's use of the finest quality pigments ensure pure, true colors and superb coverage.
Derwent Artists Colored Pencils are available individually and in tins of 12, 24, 36 and 72 as well as in special 120 pencil wooden boxes, the latter maybe a little bit harder to get hold of in the US.
The color range is scrumptious, no screaming colors that you cannot use to create realistic depictions, making this the perfect choice for landscape work as well as portrait work. My favorite colors are: Champagne, Flesh Pink, Parchment, Felt Grey, Burnt Umber, Sepia, Light Rust, Taupe, Bistre, Mars Violet, Burnt Carmine and French Grey. Truly wonderful choices there to enhance facial tonal values in your work.
